Cloudy morning, but sunny periods later on the Royal Wedding Day

After a cool, cloudy start and a hazy north-easterly breeze, sunny intervals developed by late morning, becoming sunny periods with a thin cover of high cloud, by mid afternoon. Temperatures still well above the April average with a high of 19.7C by late afternoon. A nice fresh-looking speckled wood fluttered around the garden in the warm sunshine later in the day.

Another pleasant spring day

After a cloudy start, sunny intervals developed by lunchtime. The max temperature of 18.3C was well above average, but the northerly breeze made it feel cool in the shade. Still only 2.0mm rain this month.

Not too bad a day

After a cloudy start, with a little rain around dawn, sunny periods developed later, with a max temperature of 17.3C. Not bad for late April, but seems cool after the recent hot spell, especially as there was a fresh breeze blowing.

Cooler air setting in on Tuesday 26th

With a maximum temperature of only 15.7C, Tuesday was a day for putting our coats back on. A brisk northerly breeze made it feel chilly in the shade, but some sunny periods later made it a bit more spring-like.

Sunny and clear, but a bit breezy

Easter Monday was free from the haze of the weekend's hotter days as a cooler northerly wind set in. The max temperature was till some 8 deg C above average though, with a top temperature of 22.3C.

Sunny but cooler on Easter Day 24th April

Another sunny but hazy day after early low cloud cleared. The temperature was lower than yesterday, with a maximum temperature of 23.3C, still way above the average max for April. Several Holly Blues and Orange Tips seen in the garden, and the first damselfly fluttered around the pond. Some frogs and newts in the pond, but there has been no frog spawn this year.

Hot and sunny on 23rd April, but thundery showers brought some relief!

What must be record temperatures for April today, 23rd, as bright sun dominated the day until late afternoon, when large thunderclouds formed to give some rain that just about wet the ground and put a bit of water in the water butts. There were a few claps of thunder to go with it, but nothing close by. The ground dried out again later, but the temperature fell enough to give a fresh feel, especially as the wind picked up around the showers to give gusts up to 24 kts. In the end only 0.4mm of rain fell. The maximum temperature was 28.0C.

Less haze, less cloud and even warmer

Good Friday 22nd April was even warmer than Thursday, with the temperature peeking at 26.5C. A little more breeze from the south and less haze gave it a pleasanter feel than yesterday, although a lack of cumulus clouds made it a very bright, sunny day.

Yet another 'Hottest day of the year so far' on Thursday 21st

Hot and hazy again, but with more extensive cumulus forming later. I experienced a few large drops of rain around 4pm in the middle of Reading, but nothig in Bracknell as far as I could tell. Maximum temperature 26.1.

Wednesday, 20 April 2011

Even warmer today

The temperature peeked at 25.7C today, the highest so far this year.  High cumulus clouds became quite extensive during the afternoon, giving once again a hazy orange-hued  summer-like day.  Saw a Holly Blue, Orange Tip and a Speckled Wood today, plus a pretty yellow moth with reddish-brown wing tips.

A Mediterranean feel today as temperatures soar into the mid-twenties

The warmest day so far this year, with a maximum temperature of 24.2C, and with the hazy sky and lazy orange cumulus it felt more like August than April. Holly Blue and two Orange Tips seen today. My potatoes are a good six inches high and the ground is still bone dry. I shall have to do more watering this evening, but my two water butts are nearly empty. Sat outside with a beer after watering my other garden - bliss!

Monday, 18 April 2011

A bit cooler, but still well above average

After a very misty/hazy start, Monday 18th turned into another dry day with sunny periods, but with a noticable easterly breeze that kept the maximum temperature down to 18.8C, still some 6 degrees above average.

Another 20 deg C day on Sunday

Sunny periods and warm again on Sunday 17th April, with a maximum temperature of 20.4C and fairly light easterly winds. Ground is now really dry and I am even having to water the potatoes.

Saturday, 16 April 2011

A nearly nice day

Showed promise, with cloud clearing in the morning and little wind. But it turned all CuSc and even looked threatening at times. Maximum temperature 17.9C.

Friday, 15 April 2011

A bit warmer on 15th April, but still rather cloudy.

Generally cloudy and a bit warmer on 15th, but some sunny intervals developed later. Maximum temperature 16.7C.

Another disappointing day on 14th April

Cloudy and relatively cool, with some very light rain in the evening. Maximum temperature 14.1C.

Cloudy and even cooler on 13th April

After a ground frost overnight, it was a mostly high cloud day, with just a few bright intervals and some light rain later in the day as the cloud thickened. Maximum temperature 13.6C.

Cooler day on 12th April but still quite sunny.

A week cold front crossed the area overnight, to give a cooler day with a maximum temperature of 16.1C. Still well above the seasonal average, though, with some good sunny periods.

Becoming Cloudy but still warm on 11th April

High cloud thickened during the day to give a few spots of rain later on. Still warm, though, with a maximum temperature of 20.9C.

Monday, 11 April 2011

Yet another sunny day on 10th

Sunny and warm again yesterday, Sunday 10th, but with quite a bit of high cloud about at times. Less wind though. Max temperature 21.4C.

Saturday, 9 April 2011

Sunny, but a bit cooler

Another sunny day, but a bit cooler as an easterly breeze set in and the sun was attenuated somewhat behind encroaching cirrus. Top temperature 19.9C.

Friday, 8 April 2011

Yet another sunny and warm day

Friday 8th was virtually cloudless from dawn to dusk, with the temperature reaching 21.7C, and with lighter winds than of late. The very bright sunshine made it too hot to sit out in for any length of time. Saw a holly blue again today.

Another warm day yesterday

Sunny and warm again on Thursday 7th, but some large patches of flat cumulus formed for a time in the afternoon. Top temperature 22.5C. Cabbage white and holly blue seen in garden.

Temperature into the twenties

Very warm day with wall to wall sunshine and just a few high clouds about. The temperature reached 23.4C on a very dry, breezy, southerly airstream. The ground is getting seriously dry again, my water butts are getting low, and there doesn't seem any rain forecast for the next week or more.

Tuesday, 5 April 2011

Even gloomier and colder today.

Cloudy, breezy and cool, with rain in the early hours and a few spot during the morning. Drier in the afternoon and becoming more humid. Temperature didn't make it to 13C. A promise of 21C tomorrow.

Monday, 4 April 2011

Cool and generally cloudy again

Another day of breezy, cool, westerly weather, with a potential for showers, but none materialising. Looks like rain could be in short supply again over the next week or two. Gave the lawn a second cut, and noticed another potato shoot breaking through the soil. Tulips are showing colour.

Sunday, 3 April 2011

A cooler day after a bright start

It started nicely, with just some high cloud around, but stratus then cumulus formed to make it a rather cloudy, cooler day, though still mild for early April, with a maximum temperatureof 15.3 C. There were some dark shower clouds around by 1700Z, but only a few spots of rain fell on my garden. Noted a potato shoot trying to break the surface this afternoon - a bit early! Also noted newly planted fruit trees beginning to bud. Aubretia and forget-me-nots very showy, and first honesty blooming.

A disappointing day

Cloudy today, with a few bursts of brightness. Mild, though, with a top temperature of 17.9C.

Two days of mild, breezy southwesterlies

Yesterday was cloudy, breezy and mild, with some drizzly rain at times. Today started similarly, but the sun broke through late in the day to give some pleasant afternoon sunshine. The 30cm soil temperature hit 10.1C today, so we can expect things to start growing apace in the garden.
